Micro and Macro Skills

Micro skills: the micro skills refers to produce the smaller chunks of language like morphemes, phonemes, etc.

  • ·         Produce differences among English phonemes and allophonic variants
  • ·         Produce reduced forms of words and phrases
  • ·         Use and adequate number of lexical
  • ·         Produce fluent speech
  • ·         Use grammatical word classes

Macro skills: the speaker must be focused on the largest elements like fluency, discourse, cohesion, etc.

  • ·         Appropriately accomplish communicative functions
  • ·         Use appropriate styles
  • ·         Convey links and connections between events
  • ·         Develop and use a battery of speaking strategies

The skills can be considered as a checklist objectives so make sure you are taking into account all of them.
