Basic Type of Speaking

There are 5 categories of speaking

1.- IMITATIVE: it is the ability to simply parrot back a phrase or a possible answer. Anyway, teacher must consider lexical and grammatical properties in the criterion performance.


2.- INTENSIVE: it is about the production of short stretches to demonstrate competence (phonological relationship= intonation, stress, rhythm, etc).


3.- RESPONSIVE: it includes interaction and test comprehension. Teacher can use oral questions in order to guide students as a prompt.


4.- INTERACTIVE: it can take 2 forms. Transactional language exchanging is about specific information and interpersonal exchanging maintain social relationships.

5.- EXTENSIVE: it includes oral presentation, storytelling or speeches.
